Indera Sakti, Gift of A Royal Wedding (Part II)

This is the gateway to Pulau Penyengat. It is located next to the ferry terminal, away from the main road. For first timer like me, it is advisable to ask for directions.

The pongpong ( I guess the name derives from the diesel engine sound, pongpongpongpongpong ) boat ride costs Rp10,000 one way. But should you feel like having the whole boat for yourself, it will cost you Rp300,000, good thing is, you don't have to wait for others, and you can plan your own journey. Well.....Rp300,000 is too much! Let's wait for the others to board the boat.

You can choose your seat freely.... either properly seated inside, or in front of the bow. I choose the later to enjoy the serene scenery.

20 minutes later, I step myself onto Penyengat's soil.

Brief history about Pulau Penyengat.

And the history is compiled in this book too.

First stop, Masjid Raya Sultan Riau. The mosque was first erected in the year 1760's and strengthen by cement and eggwhite in the year 1844 by H.E. Yang DiPertuan Muda Riau, Raja Abdurrahman.

I wonder how many eggs were involved in the construction.....

View from the outside....

And from the inside.

A few hundred meters from the mosque, there lies the mausoleum complex. The complex houses graves of Raja Hamidah, The Permaisuri Sultan Mahmud Shah III, and Raja Ali Haji, Gurindam Dua Belas poetry.

Visitors can read every sonnet of Gurindam Dua Belas, craved on the mausoleum wall. The Gurindam educates us good things, which can be used to lit our pathways of life.

Raja Hamidah's grave

And this is Raja Ali Haji's grave.

The surroundings.....

It's so quiet! May their souls rest in peace. Amin!

to be continued....
